Depending on what country you have chosen to train in will determine what amount of training and where you will need to train to become a medical esthetician. In America you need to do at least six months of medical training after preliminary studies in certificates for nursing or medicine. Many people can go straight to the medical esthetician training however employers are looking for staff with background and experience in medical practices.

In Australia and New Zealand you can do the same training as in America or you can make your way through a nursing degree and then add extra subjects to become an esthetician. The other option is studying directly at an academy or subjects at a university full time or part time. Many of the institutes in Australia, America and the United Kingdom will honor their certificates or diplomas at an international level. Some of the degrees that lead you to this position also have exchange programs where you can spend one semester overseas learning about different techniques while getting to see the sites.

There are quick qualifications to get in some states of different countries like the American state of Texas. A seven day course in medical esthetician is all that you need to get a job in this state however like I have pointed out in the previous paragraph most of the employers are looking for more than just a quick certificate and during this economic crisis they can afford to be picky about who they hire. The training is definitely worth the effort if this is your chosen path because a career as a medical esthetician working to improve people’s skin is very rewarding indeed.

The term medical esthetician refers to a specialist that is certified in the care of people’s skin which is usually the skin of the face to help maintain and improve the skins appearance and tone. This type of medical practitioner is becoming more common as the world looks towards men and women looking beautiful all of the time. The other part of the medical esthetician is providing care or patients who have either gone through a surgery that involves now looking after the skin for post surgery care of for people that are about to go under a surgical procedure.

The care of the skin can be a vital part of the recovery process which doctors understand and this is why this kind of medical practice has taken off so quickly. Many different professions such as nurses and cosmetic skin care specialists are all doing further training to help patients with their post surgery care which often includes caring for the skin and hair around the incisions that were made in the body. It can help reduce scaring as well as infections to the area when care is done effectively and constantly.

A new breed of cosmetic surgeons is emerging though they are not necessarily a surgical doctor and are more of a cosmetic enhancer for people who want to look good. The medical esthetician is a highly trained and certified cosmetic therapist that is trained in helping to prevent the effects of aging, reduce the effects of aging and help those people with skin disorders or inflictions to remedy their skin problems. Cosmetology and medical esthetician are almost one in the same both providing skin care solutions to patients and providing them with the means to look after their skin and help to keep health tones and moisture.

Dermatology and plastic surgeons have use for a medical esthetician to prep patients as well as post operation development. The influx of students into this area of medicine has risen dramatically over the last decade as students of skin care look to develop their skills and rise through the ranks of the skin care profession.

Skin and hair problems are tackled by a certified medical esthetician which is part of the normal routine for this type of practitioner. They may care for people with extraordinary bacterial or acne problems as well as skin burns patients, patients who have major scaring or patients with sensitive skin that require help with bathing or cleaning the sensitive area. The work is diverse and rewarding for students of this profession because the results of good work can be seen firsthand. All parts of the body where skin is accessible can be cared for and potentially healed by a medical esthetician.

If you are deciding on a career in the art of skin care and skin rehabilitation then it may be wise to search universities and other medical colleges for a degree or diploma in medical esthetician. There are many main stream schooling courses that can lead you into this career path which has a rewarding outcome and is in high demand.
